Steps To Create a folder or file without a name (Blank Folders and files)
Step 1: Creating a new folder or a file.
Create a new folder or a file. By default, it will have the name new folder. Now if you try to keep the name as blank for a file or folder it will not work since the windows operating system does not accept black names for files and folders.
Click on the rename option as shown below.

Step 2: Use the ASCII input to trick windows
In order to create a folder or a file without a name, you need to name the file with space. But windows generally do not accept spaces as input for names. So what we can do is instead give the name in ASCII format.
To do that Press and hold the βAltβ button on your keyboard and then type 0160 or 255 from βNum Pad‘ which at the right side of your keyboard as shown in the image below. Note: Only when you use Numpad this work will work. The other number keys do not work the same way.

So your actual input should be:
“alt+255” or “alt+0160″
Note: Plus sign is not the plus on the keyboard it is an indication to press alt and the numbers.
Press enter and now itβs done. You have successfully created a folder or a file without a name. Simply speaking a nameless folder. This is a neat trick for hackers and pen-testers to know.

Now you can brag and prank your friends with some spooky files.

Why and how it actually works?
The reason for this trick is that windows has a checker that checks for spaces as input and does not accept it. However, when it comes to ASCII values of space such as 0160 and 255 it is unable to filter it. Thus giving rise to blank names on windows systems. By pressing alt+numbers we are enabling ASCII mode, and in ASCII mode windows allow us to enter space (Space means alt + 0160 or 255) in the file name or folder name parameter. And now you know how nameless folders can be made and exploited on windows.
I hope you liked the article and you were able to create blank folders and files. Happy Hacking.
