The number of public WiFi is increasing to help people stay connected in emergencies. It is useful for much other stuff like checking news updates, using social media, etc.
You can’t trust those WiFi and access your personal info or banking statements etc. Avoid using banking-related stuff using public WiFi at any cost. Never even make online payments on Public WiFi as well.
Use Multifactor Authentication On Your Account
Be it your bank account, Facebook account, or any other account, use two-factor authentication on your account. Two-factor authentication is a really safe method that keeps your account much more secure. It won’t let you log in to your accounts without your permission all the time. Two Factor Authentication Method must have security for all your accounts. Don’t avoid this.
Update the software
Whenever you are getting windows or iOS updates, update them. Hackers might find some back doors using the older versions to access your PC or devices. Don’t ignore the update of any software. Keep antivirus up to date. Keep all of your software updated. Avoid using cracked software which gives you high chances of affecting your accounts or PC.
Don’t Open unknown links
This is the era of spam emails. You will get a lot of emails for offers on many things. Don’t ever click on the links from non trusted sites. Even a single link click might help hackers to access your device. Stop subscribing to unknown newsletters. Always have some strong passwords that no one can think about. Putting in some effort in remembering a bit harder password is worth saving your accounts from hackers. Don’t put your date of birth, mobile number, or anything relevant numbers or names as your Password. Use passwords that are not easy to guess. Try to use different passwords for different accounts. Don’t repeat the same password everywhere.

Use a VPN while surfing through unknown sites. It changes your location and does not let track your location. You can use a VPN on untrusted WiFi or public WiFi networks. VPN lets you keep your identity hidden while you are on the internet. That’s the best way to stay safe while browsing. Use it as much as you can. Use trusted VPNs such as Nord, Browsec, etc.
Keep your eyes on permission
Whenever you install a new game or an app, it asks you for permission to access your contacts, gallery, calls, etc. Make sure you are not giving unwanted permission to those apps. For example, for an app like a VPN or to-do list, you don’t need to give contacts or calls permission. Keep your eyes on allowing permission for apps. You can avoid permitting them if it is not necessary.
Don’t share bank details on calls
The bank never asks you for the credit card details or the password. They might ask you for your name and address for verification. But they never ask you for PINs and passwords. Avoid giving the card number, CVV, password, details to anyone on the call. Some people might say that they are from a bank and asking for security or verifications. Don’t tell them anything which needs to be secured.
Check Secured Payment Gateways
While making an online payment make sure the payment gateway that you are using is trusted. Payment gateway such as PayPal, Instamojo, Razorpay, etc. is some of the trusted sources. Some people might ask for money and a getaway. Check the reviews, contact details, address, etc of the site that you are making payment on. Never make payments on the sites that do not have trust seals such as contact details, proof, etc.
Be sure while sharing personal info
Whenever you are sharing personal info even on social media or on some forums, be sure. Make sure that it is not something that someone will take advantage of using that information. Avoid sharing sensitive information at any cost. Your social media presence is something where people might guess your character or avatar. Try to share things that won’t hurt you back. These are some of the most common and easy-to-follow things that you should implement while using the internet. Never be careless and surf the internet, it will backlash you.
